LØUCO X Science: Episode with Rachel Prince & Pelvic Health Physio, Megan Vickers
When most people hear “pelvic floor,” they think pregnancy or postpartum recovery. But pelvic health matters for all women, especially through our 30s, 40s, perimenopause, and beyond.
In this episode of our podcast, I sit down with Megan Vickers, a physiotherapist with 20 years of experience, Pilates teacher, co-founder of Foursides London, and author of Stronger: The Honest Guide to Healing After Pregnancy and Birth.
Together, we unpack why pelvic health isn’t just about childbirth, how to spot symptoms early, and why exercise, nutrition, and gut health all play a vital role.
What we cover in this conversation:
- Pelvic health through key stages of life, from postpartum to menopause.
- Why the pelvic floor should be treated like any another muscle, and needs the same strength and recovery principles as the rest of the body.
- The early signs of dysfunction such as leaks, urgency, pelvic pain, and why they shouldn’t be ignored.
- Exercise myths and how women can run, lift weights, and do HIIT with prolapse or incontinence, when supported properly.
- Beyond Kegels and how to train the pelvic floor effectively.
- Gut health and pelvic health including why constipation and poor motility strain the pelvic floor, and how nutrition is part of the solution.
Evidence that matters
Pelvic floor disorders affect more women than you might think:
- Around 1 in 3 women over 40 report at least one pelvic floor disorder, and many live with more than one at the same time.
- Clinical studies show up to half of women have some degree of prolapse on exam, even if they don’t notice symptoms.
- Urinary incontinence affects over half of women in their mid-40s in some studies.
These issues are common, but they don’t have to be accepted as “normal.”
Why gut health belongs in this conversation
Constipation and straining are major risk factors for pelvic floor dysfunction. As Megan and I discuss, supporting gut motility is just as important as training the pelvic floor. That’s one of the reasons we created LØUCO, doctor-led supplements designed to support women’s energy, hormones, and gut health.
